Watch the video below to see how Chemo Church impacted the people in this cancer treatment center. We encourage you to pray about starting a Chemo Church where you live. It is simple. Commit to regular visits with patients, their family, and the hospital staff. Pray for them, cry with them, love on them. Let the Lord lead you to bring encouragement and hope to those suffering trials. For more information please contact Mary Anderwald (manderwald@hisbb.org).
Dear Mike and Staff:
A while back I contacted you about my own prostate cancer that recurred a few years later after primary treatment consisting of radiation therapy. At the time, I was researching what my next step will be, and consulted several oncologists and even contacted the German doctor that did autologous immunotherapy with whom you partcipated. With persistent and the Lord’s help, I found an Oncologist in Houston (Dr. Robert Amato) that was open minded and was thinking “out of the box” when it comes to treating prostate cancer. He prescribed a combined therapy that was unthinkable to most Oncologists after finding out that I was at Stage iV (metastasis in the spine and lymph node). I drove weekly to Houston for a while for my cocktail of chemo and hormone deprivation therapy, and later found a local Oncologist (a tennis friend) who was willing to supervise the treatment locally here in Garland/Dallas. I endured 18 months of chemo and hormone deprivation treatment.. I have been off any drugs for a few months now, and I believe the Lord has given me a new life and am currently cancer free. The bone met at L3 is no longer visible, and my health and life is returning to normal. Bottom line is that with the Lord and Jesus at my side, I was never worried about any of this disease or ordeal that I went through. I know that this journey is a testament of my life so that I can share with others the comfort of going through difficulties without any fear.
PS: I presume that the treatment that Dr. Kief provided has in effect failed?
I am at MD Anderson seeing Dr Tu and on Lupron only. He says Luprom works an average of 9 months before other measures will be needed. Please share the names of the chemo cocktail you were given. I suppose the hormone deprivation was Lupron or a generic form of it. Wayne.
Wayne, I had chemo+hormone deprivation for 9 months followed by another 9 months of hormone deprivation only. The First 9-month is a cocktail of docetaxel (Taxotere), doxorubicin (Adriamycin), ketoconazole, estramustine (Emcyt), and quarterly shot of leuprolide (Lupron). The last 9-month consisted of Lupron and daily bicalutamide (Casodex). Started in September 2010 and finished in march 2012. Dr. Amato’s treatment is to me a radical, out of the box approach that many Oncologists are afraid to follow or even try. See this seminar by Dr. Amato on why he (and I agree) thinks early intervention of using chemo is the best way of treating prostate and other cancers: https://memorialhermann.adobeconnect.com/_a976765836/p42614370/?launcher=false&fcsContent=true&pbMode=normal
Hi,
I have a quick question about your blog, would you mind emailing me when you get a chance?
Thanks,
